Dominican schools to resume classes after heavy rains
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Education (Minerd) announced that classes will resume Thursday, October 29, at schools where activities were suspended as a precaution because of heavy rains in recent days.
The decision follows the Emergency Operations Center’s (COE) lifting of yellow alerts previously issued for several areas of the country due to adverse weather conditions. However, Minerd said schools must be inspected before students return to ensure safe conditions for students, teachers and administrative staff.
The ministry instructed regional, district and school authorities to coordinate the reopening process and verify that facilities are in suitable condition. The measure is intended to prevent risks at schools that were temporarily closed because of flooding and other weather-related conditions.
