Dominican Senate and Organization of American States discuss cooperation against synthetic drugs
Washington.- Ricardo de los Santos met with Albert Ramdin to discuss regional cooperation strategies aimed at addressing the growing threat of synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances across the Americas.

During the meeting, De los Santos presented the progress of the Parliaments and Prosperity program, a Dominican-led initiative focused on strengthening legislative frameworks through scientific evidence, regional dialogue, and the exchange of best practices among the hemisphere’s parliaments. He emphasized the need for coordinated regulatory standards to confront the expansion of emerging drugs and the influence of transnational organized crime in the region.

Ramdin praised the initiative as a model for hemispheric legislative cooperation and expressed the Organization of American States’ interest in collaborating on the development of a regional regulatory framework to improve security and address the rise of synthetic substances.

The meeting also highlighted the role of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) in providing technical cooperation, prevention strategies, and institutional support to member states dealing with drug-related challenges.
