Dominican Solidarity with Haiti marks Flag Day with a call for peace and cooperation
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Solidarity with Haiti expressed support for the Haitian people on the occasion of Haiti Flag Day, highlighting the lasting impact of the Haitian Revolution on anti-slavery movements and independence struggles throughout the Americas.
In a statement released Monday, the organization paid tribute to historic figures such as Cécile Fatiman, Dutty Boukman, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and Alexandre Pétion. The group noted that Haiti played a decisive role in regional history, including its support for Simón Bolívar during the independence campaigns in South America.
The movement also addressed Haiti’s current crisis, describing the country as facing severe violence and instability. It argued that any lasting solution must be led by Haitians themselves, without foreign interference, and with full respect for national sovereignty.
The organization further called for stronger cooperation and solidarity between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect, human rights, and peaceful coexistence between the two neighboring nations.
