Dominican tourism journalist Cristina Rosario inducted into OMPT Hall of Honor
Santo Domingo.- Veteran tourism journalist Cristina Rosario has become the first Dominican woman to be inducted into the Hall of Honor of the World Organization of Tourism Journalism (OMPT), a distinction that recognizes professionals whose work has contributed to the promotion of responsible, sustainable and inclusive tourism through specialized communication.
The recognition was presented during the 17th International Congress of Journalists and Tourism Professionals, held in Circasia, Colombia, where tourism communicators, academics and sector representatives from across Latin America gathered to discuss the future of tourism communication in the digital era.
Rosario, who has spent more than two decades covering tourism and destination development, was honored for a career that has combined journalism, editorial production and destination promotion. Throughout her professional journey, she has contributed to specialized tourism publications, produced destination guides and participated in initiatives aimed at highlighting the Dominican Republic’s cultural and natural heritage.
She currently serves as editorial director of Trvellers.com and sits on the board of directors of the Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur), where she oversees tourism and cultural affairs for the 2025–2027 term. Her career in tourism communications spans more than two decades and includes editorial coordination roles with specialized publications such as Bohío magazine and La Cotica, the Dominican Republic’s National Tourism Guide.
The OMPT Hall of Honor recognizes journalists whose work has strengthened tourism communication while encouraging ethical reporting and the preservation of cultural identity. According to the organization, the distinction seeks to spotlight professionals who use media platforms to foster understanding, cultural exchange and sustainable tourism practices.
Rosario’s induction adds another milestone to a career that already includes the Dominican Republic’s Epifanio Lantigua National Tourism Journalism Award and several international recognitions from the OMPT’s Pasaporte Abierto awards program.
With the honor, Rosario joins fellow Dominican tourism journalist Salvador Batista among the country’s representatives recognized by the OMPT Hall of Honor, further raising the profile of Dominican tourism journalism on the international stage.
Rosario’s induction coincided with that of Panamanian journalist Yelina Pérez Sánchez, who was also welcomed into the OMPT Hall of Honor in recognition of her contributions to tourism journalism. Pérez Sánchez has built a distinguished career promoting tourism, culture and heritage through specialized media, making her one of Panama’s leading voices in the field.
