Dominican tourism journalists launch strategic overhaul to address AI and sustainability

La Romana, DR.- The Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur) launched a series of regional workshops aimed at restructuring its institutional mission to address emerging challenges in journalism, including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and sustainable tourism management.

The regional summit, titled «Repensar Adompretur» (Rethinking Adompretur), convened media professionals and hospitality leaders in the La Romana-Bayahíbe province to establish a ten-year strategic roadmap for tourism reporting in the Caribbean nation.

According to Adompretur national president Sarah Hernández, the organization is pivoting its focus toward a media landscape increasingly driven by modern traveler trends and technical evolution. «We must continue to evolve with a higher profile focused on sustainability, digital transformation, and the analysis of new trends,» Hernández stated, noting that institutional relevance over the next decade depends on adapting to these shifts.

Balancing artificial intelligence with journalistic ethics

A central focus of the panels was the rising integration of artificial intelligence in newsrooms and the critical need for rigorous content verification.

Raysa Feliz, Adompretur’s director of regional affairs, addressed the dual nature of emerging digital tools in contemporary reporting. While acknowledging that AI can streamline media production by making news delivery faster and more dynamic, Feliz emphasized that technological tools cannot replace human editorial judgment or professional ethics.

The association underscored that maintaining public trust requires strict adherence to objectivity and factual verification before publishing across digital platforms.

Aligning media coverage with regional sustainability goals

The workshop also highlighted the growing intersection between tourism journalism and environmental accountability. Institutional leaders argued that sector success can no longer be measured solely by hotel room occupancy, but must also account for social responsibility and resource conservation.

The seminar included briefings on regional infrastructure and conservation developments, such as the «La Romana 2026 strategic plan.» Presented by Ana García-Sotoca, executive director of the La Romana-Bayahíbe Hotel Association (AHRB), the municipal blueprint details ongoing coral reef restoration projects, coastal management initiatives, and land-use planning designed to handle growing visitor volumes.

The insights gathered from the La Romana-Bayahíbe regional summit are scheduled to be integrated into Adompretur’s broader national constitutional update as the organization continues its strategic tour across its various regional chapters.
