Grassroots group wants ‘exemplary’ punishment of former Major Leaguer

Santo Domingo.- The grassroots movement Citizens for Zero Impunity on Wednesday said it supports San Cristobal inhabitants who demand "exemplary" punishment against Raul Mondesi charged with embezzling more than RD$200 million in that City Council .

Zero Impunity said it supports the Justice Ministry Anticorruption Unit’s request for pretrial detention against the former member of the LA Dodgers,

In a press conference at the Dominican Journalists Guild, the organization said Mondesi and collaborators “embezzled over 200 million, without complying with any formal procedure to handle budgets."

"We demand a thorough review of all irregularities reported by the prosecution, including overvalued works, squandering of funds and budgeting without technical criteria; tax retention and evaporation without transferring the funds to Internal Taxes," among other alleged violations, adding that they’ll remain alert to Mondesí’s case and any other related to impunity and corruption.
