Peruvian citizens evacuated from Haiti

Santo Domingo.- The Foreign Ministry in Lima announced on Wednesday that eight Peruvian citizens, including three minors, who were stranded in crisis-ridden Haiti, have been safely evacuated to the Dominican Republic. They are scheduled to be repatriated to Peru soon.

In a statement, the Ministry expressed gratitude for the concerted efforts of the Peruvian Embassy in the Dominican Republic and the cooperation extended by the Dominican Government in facilitating the evacuation. The group, which includes a family consisting of a Peruvian and his three minor children, was transported from Port-au-Prince to Dominican territory by Dominican Foreign Ministry officials.

The Peruvian Embassy in Santo Domingo is currently providing assistance to the evacuated family until arrangements can be made for their return to Peru.

This evacuation comes amid ongoing instability and violence in Haiti. The repatriation efforts were initiated following the first communication from the Presidential Council of Haiti, responsible for overseeing the democratic political transition. The Council pledged to restore stability and dignity to the country, acknowledging the prolonged suffering endured by the Haitian people due to governance failures, widespread violence, and neglect of their needs and aspirations.
