Army military battalion joins police patrols to ensure security

Santo Domingo – The Military Police Battalion of the Army of the Dominican Republic began operations in support of the prevention patrols carried out in different areas of the country, especially in Greater Santo Domingo.

During a ceremony held at the C-2 Police detachment in Ensanche María Auxiliadora, the army commander general, Major General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, in his role as Commander of the Unified Armed Forces, emphasized that with this relaunch, a new operational approach is being introduced in support of the National Police.

He pointed out that the objective is to intensify and follow up “minute by minute” the heat map of criminal actions, with the aim of attacking head-on those incidences that affect citizens throughout the national territory.

“We have the full backing of President Luis Abinader as supreme authority of the Armed Forces and the National Police, from whom we have received total support, both morally and in resources, as well as from the high command of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa and the National Police, to faithfully fulfill our duty,” he said.

This deployment is part of the joint operations that will be carried out in the regional directorates of Santo Domingo East, North, and West and in the city of Santiago to strengthen the fight against common and organized crime, contribute to citizen security, and maintain public order.

The unit of the first Military Police Battalion of the ERD was created a year ago, where several officers and enlisted men received training in the Military Police schools of the Armies of the sister Republic of Colombia and Guatemala.
