Edeeste illuminates main access to Higüey with RD$8.2 million investment
Higüey.- The Eastern Electricity Distribution Company (Edeeste) announced the completion of a major street-lighting project along the Higüey–Yuma highway, aimed at improving road safety, mobility, and public security in La Altagracia province. The initiative was carried out in response to requests made by residents and community leaders through the government’s “Government With You” program.
The project involved an investment of RD$8.27 million and covered the stretch between the Higüey Mural Roundabout and the intersection with the Autovía del Este. Edeeste installed 126 new poles with LED lighting, deployed nearly five kilometers of electrical networks, and added supporting infrastructure, including transformers and medium- and low-voltage power lines. The corridor now features more than 130 operational streetlights.
According to Edeeste, the new lighting system will help reduce the risk of traffic accidents, improve nighttime safety, and enhance the image of Higüey as one of the country’s leading tourist and religious destinations. The company said the project has been well received by residents, businesses, and visitors and reaffirmed its commitment to expanding electrical infrastructure and public lighting projects that contribute to community development and quality of life.
