EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič to visit Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic will host the fifth ministerial meeting of the Joint Council between the European Union and the 15 member states of CARIFORUM from June 18 to 20, marking the first time the event has been held in the country. The gathering will be led by EU Trade and Economic Security Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, who will head the European delegation.
Šefčovič will co-chair the meeting alongside Theodora Constantinidou and Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, representing CARIFORUM. The discussions will focus on strengthening implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and expanding trade and investment opportunities between the Caribbean region and the European Union.
During his visit, Šefčovič is scheduled to meet with Dominican President Luis Abinader and Minister Sanz Lovatón. He will also preside over the 8th EPA Awards, which recognize Dominican and European companies that have successfully leveraged the trade agreement to expand their presence in international markets. The EPA, signed in 2008 between the EU and CARIFORUM countries, serves as the framework for economic cooperation and trade relations between the two regions.
