EUROCINE 2026 to bring contemporary European cinema to Dominican audiences

Santo Domingo.- The European Union Delegation in the Dominican Republic, together with EU member states, Caribbean Cinemas, DGCINE and Ebribari Audiovisual, presented EUROCINE 2026, a festival showcasing contemporary European cinema.

The festival will open on October 26 at 7:00 p.m. with Gloria! (Italy–Switzerland, 2024), the directorial debut of Italian filmmaker Margherita Vicario. The film is set in an 18th-century girls’ school in Venice and follows a young musician who challenges the conventions of her time.

The closing film will be Pepe (Dominican Republic, Germany, France and Namibia, 2024), directed by Dominican filmmaker Nelson Carlos de los Santos Arias, who won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival.

The 2026 lineup features 14 films from countries including Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Romania, Ireland, Hungary, Greece, Finland and the Netherlands, with a focus on diverse voices, co-productions and filmmakers whose work is not commonly screened in Dominican theaters.

EU officials and local cultural organizations highlighted EUROCINE’s role in promoting cultural exchange and expanding access to international cinema for Dominican audiences.
