FAO Director-General to visit Dominican Republic to review food security progress
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Director-General QU Dongyu will make an official visit to the Dominican Republic from October 23 to 27, accompanied by a high-level delegation.
The visit will focus on the country’s progress in food security, nutrition, rural development and the transformation of agri-food systems, including initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening agricultural production.
QU Dongyu is expected to meet with government officials, private-sector representatives and partner organizations, while visiting communities and initiatives related to social protection, agricultural innovation, school feeding and rural development.
The visit comes as the Dominican Republic has made significant progress in reducing hunger and undernourishment, including its removal from the global hunger map. The achievement is expected to serve as a foundation for further strengthening policies that ensure access to adequate food.
The mission will also seek to strengthen cooperation between the FAO and the Dominican Republic and promote the exchange of knowledge on more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable food systems.
