Faride Raful leads security meeting with governors from all 32 provinces to combat crime and disorder
Santo Domingo.- Faride Raful met with governors from the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic to coordinate actions aimed at combating drug micro-trafficking, traffic accidents, illegal motorcycle racing, cattle rustling, and other crimes affecting public safety.
During the meeting, held under the security strategies promoted by President Luis Abinader, provincial authorities discussed the impact of crime in their communities and outlined needs related to police and fire department equipment, vehicles, and institutional infrastructure.
Raful emphasized the importance of reporting cattle rustling cases, particularly in provinces such as La Altagracia, stating that formal complaints allow authorities to investigate and prosecute offenders. Deputy Minister Angela Jáquez urged stricter controls on livestock transportation and slaughter operations to prevent illegal activity.
Meanwhile, Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz highlighted progress in the government’s police reform plan, which aims to add 20,000 officers by 2028. He said nearly 13,000 recruits have already joined, with more than 2,500 trainees expected to graduate soon to reinforce security nationwide. Authorities also discussed a new motorcycle control plan targeting illegal street racing.
The meeting additionally addressed noise control and permits for public events. Officials from Barahona proposed stricter limits on outdoor activities and music schedules, while the governor of La Altagracia, Delsa de Óleo, raised concerns over youth violence and the presence of unsupervised foreign minors linked to criminal activity in Verón.
