Fire at Puerto Plata hotel under control; tourism returns to normal

Puerto Plata — The fire at the Senator Hotels & Resorts complex was completely brought under control, thanks to the rapid intervention of the response agencies, reported Atahualpa Paulino, the regional director for the north of the Ministry of Tourism ( Mitur ).

He specified that the affected area corresponds to a hotel that was closed and had no guests, so there were no fatalities or injuries. He also indicated that the incident did not affect operations at the Senator Bachata and Senator Puerto Plata hotels, which continue to operate normally.

Paulino expressed his gratitude for the work of the Maimón and Puerto Plata Fire Departments, Civil Defense, the Tourist Police ( Politur ), the National Police, the Dominican Republic Air Force (FARD), the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1, Ambar Rescue, the mayor of the Maimón municipal district, Divison Sánchez, the staff of Senator Hotels & Resorts, and the other institutions that participated in the response, highlighting that their rapid coordination allowed them to control the fire and protect people and facilities.

He reiterated, through a statement, that the municipal district of Maimón and the entire province of Puerto Plata continue to be a safe and fully operational tourist destination, so tourist and hotel operations are proceeding with complete normality, while the competent authorities investigate the origin of the fire and assess the material damage.
