Five Haitians injured in DGM vehicle accident in San Juan
San Juan, DR.- Five Haitian nationals were injured Tuesday after two vehicles belonging to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), which were transporting foreigners in irregular migratory status, collided at the San Juan intersection along the Francisco del Rosario Sánchez highway.
According to the DGM, the accident occurred around 8:40 a.m. after one of the vehicles suffered a tire blowout. The driver of the vehicle behind it braked and attempted to avoid the collision but struck the rear of the first truck.
Five Haitians sustained minor injuries and were taken by National Emergency Care System ambulances to the Dr. Alejandro Cabral Regional Hospital. One of the drivers was also injured. Authorities said all those affected were in stable condition.
The vehicles sustained material damage, but once the emergency was resolved and road safety was restored, authorities resumed the operation.
The DGM said the 304 Haitian nationals being transported in irregular migratory status continued their journey to the Carrizal border post in Elías Piña, where they were to be handed over to the Haitian authorities.
