Flights between Dominican Republic and Colombia continue despite 7.4 earthquake

Santo Domingo.- Air operations between airports managed by Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) in the Dominican Republic and Colombia’s main destinations are continuing normally following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck the country Monday.

Luis López, Aerodom’s communications director, said airports in Bogotá and Medellín, which handle the largest number of flights from the Dominican Republic, are operating as usual.

However, Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics Authority (Aerocivil) suspended commercial operations at the airports in Pereira, Manizales, Armenia, Cartago and Buenaventura as authorities assess possible damage to airport infrastructure. The terminals are currently handling only medical and government flights.

Operations at Guillermo León de Valencia Airport in Popayán are also restricted because of emissions from the Puracé volcano.

For now, flights between the Dominican Republic and the main Colombian destinations served by Aerodom remain unaffected, particularly those connecting with Bogotá and Medellín.
