Floods Rains leave two dead and cause other damage

Santiago – An accident left two people dead yesterday in western Santiago when their vehicle plunged into the Ulises Francisco Espaillat (UFE) irrigation canal. The accident was caused by heavy downpours that hit the province, leading to urban flooding and reduced visibility.

The victims are Julio Álvarez, a Venezuelan national, and Olga María Amparo, a Dominican national. According to the provincial director of Civil Defense, Francisco Arias, the driver took the wrong road due to the heavy rains. The bodies were recovered in the community of La Embocada, in the Cienfuegos sector. The National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) subsequently conducted the removal of the remains.
