Foreign Ministers of Ecuador and Dominican Republic discuss trade, energy, and tourism

Santo Domingo.- Foreign Ministers Gabriela Sommerfeld and Roberto Álvarez met in Santo Domingo on Monday to strengthen bilateral relations between Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, focusing on trade, investment, tourism, energy, migration, and technical cooperation.

During the meeting, both officials emphasized the importance of advancing negotiations for a Partial Scope Trade Agreement aimed at boosting economic integration and expanding bilateral trade opportunities. They also agreed to promote joint initiatives related to free zones, investment, and business cooperation, while highlighting progress in tourism collaboration and gastronomic diplomacy agreements signed in 2025.

The foreign ministers also discussed regional and international issues, including the crisis in Haiti, calling on the international community to strengthen efforts to restore security and stability. In the energy sector, both countries reaffirmed cooperation under agreements involving EP PETROECUADOR and REFIDOMSA, including potential Dominican investment opportunities in Ecuador’s “Amistad” natural gas field.

Additionally, the ministers highlighted ongoing cooperation in health, digital transformation, migration management, and security, while reaffirming their commitment to expanding bilateral technical assistance programs and political dialogue mechanisms between the two nations.
