Four cruise ships bring 16,714 passengers to Puerto Plata in one day
Puerto Plata.- Puerto Plata recorded a major cruise tourism operation on Tuesday, September 15, with the simultaneous arrival of four cruise ships carrying 16,714 passengers and 5,806 crew members at the Taíno Bay and Amber Cove terminals.
The Dominican Port Authority said the operation highlights Puerto Plata’s growing role as one of the country’s leading cruise destinations and generates activity for transportation, excursions, restaurants, crafts, retail and other tourism-related businesses.
Port Authority executive director Alejandro Campos said the growth of cruise tourism should translate into greater economic opportunities for local communities.
Based on an estimated average expenditure of US$100 per passenger, the 16,714 visitors could represent approximately US$1.67 million in potential passenger spending in Puerto Plata during the day. The estimate does not include spending by crew members.
Four cruise ships arrive at Puerto Plata
At the Taíno Bay Tourist Terminal, the Adventure of the Seas arrived from Port Canaveral with 3,739 passengers and 1,193 crew members, while the Celebrity Beyond arrived from Miami carrying 3,175 passengers and 1,419 crew members.
At Amber Cove, in Maimón, the Mardi Gras arrived from Grand Turk with 5,547 passengers and 1,763 crew members, while the Carnival Vista arrived from Port Canaveral with 4,253 passengers and 1,431 crew members.
The simultaneous operation demonstrates the capacity of both terminals to handle multiple cruise vessels and large volumes of visitors.
Puerto Plata strengthens cruise tourism growth
The arrival comes as cruise activity continues to expand in Puerto Plata. Through August 2026, Taíno Bay had received 800,680 cruise visitors and is projected to reach approximately 1.22 million passengers by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Amber Cove recorded 700,578 passengers between January and August.
The Dominican Port Authority said the continued increase in cruise arrivals is benefiting businesses and communities throughout Puerto Plata’s tourism and commercial value chain.
With thousands of cruise passengers visiting its attractions, restaurants and businesses in a single day, Puerto Plata continues to strengthen its position as a major cruise tourism hub in the Dominican Republic.
