Frontier launches daily flight between Punta Cana and Puerto Rico
Frontier Airlines will add eight new routes in the Caribbean and Latin America as part of the reconfiguration of the air market, consolidating its presence in high-demand tourist destinations such as Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The restructuring in the ultra-low-cost airline segment in the United States continues to drive strategic moves that directly impact Caribbean connectivity.
The addition of the San Juan-Punta Cana route guarantees the continuity of a vital air link for regional tourism. The service, which Frontier began operating daily, connects two of the Caribbean’s main tourist destinations and offers a low-cost alternative for leisure travelers as well as those traveling for family or business reasons.
The decision comes at a time of market reorganization, following Spirit Airlines ‘ reduction of operations to several destinations. With this Frontier, it not only preserves an established route between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic but also strengthens its presence in a market characterized by year-round high passenger traffic.
In addition to the Punta Cana connection, Frontier added seven routes that were previously part of the Spirit Airlines network. These include flights between San Juan and Medellín; Fort Lauderdale and Armenia, Colombia; Barranquilla and Bucaramanga; Orlando and Guatemala City; Orlando and San Pedro Sula, Honduras; and Atlanta and San Pedro Sula.
In announcing the addition of the new routes, Frontier stated that its goal is to ensure travelers continue to have affordable options in markets with strong demand. The company accompanied the launch with promotional fares to boost occupancy on the new services and reaffirmed its growth strategy by expanding into routes with high tourism potential.
“We are pleased to expand our service to ensure that consumers continue to have access to affordable travel options,” said Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network Design and Operations at Frontier Airlines.
