G12 presents proposals to modernize Dominican Republic’s transportation system

Santo Domingo.- The G12 Group, a major organization in the Dominican transportation sector, presented a series of proposals to modernize public transportation, improve mobility, and reduce traffic fatalities during a meeting with the new head of the transportation agency, Juan Manuel Méndez.

G12 founder and National Central of Unified Transporters (CNTU) president William Pérez Figuereo presented the organization’s recommendations, which include staggered schedules for workplaces and schools, expanded transportation corridors, road safety schools within unions, greater use of electric vehicles, and a Zero Scrap Plan.

The group also proposed strengthening nighttime routes, expanding state-run school transportation, and introducing “school safaris” to serve students in remote mountain communities. It also called for initiatives encouraging workers to leave their private vehicles at home and use public transportation instead.

To improve road safety, G12 proposed coordinated efforts to reduce traffic deaths and called for DIGESETT and INTRANT to maintain a presence in all 157 municipalities, strengthening enforcement, education, and traffic management nationwide.

Restrictions on heavy vehicles

For heavy transportation, G12 recommended restricting trucks and other large vehicles from the main roads of the metropolitan area during peak hours, specifically from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., while encouraging their use of ring roads to reduce congestion on major arteries.

Pérez Figuereo reaffirmed G12’s willingness to work with authorities on solutions to improve mobility, reduce accidents, and create a more efficient, organized, and safer public transportation system.

The proposals reflect the group’s intention to remain actively involved in policies and initiatives aimed at transforming the Dominican Republic’s transportation sector.
