Guajimía “Stop police abuse!”: Community Takes to the Streets to Protest Following the Death of Darlin Mercado
Tension gripped the La Cañada de Guajimía neighborhood in Herrera, Santo Domingo Oeste, on Friday night, as residents took to the streets to protest the death of Darlin Mercado, the 18-year-old who died after being shot during a police operation.
Videos shared on social media show community members setting tires and piles of trash on fire while blocking several roads in the neighborhood to express their outrage over the incident that has shocked the community.
Protest Over Young Man’s Death
During the demonstration, residents expressed their outrage over what had happened and demanded justice for the young man’s death. They also called for an end to alleged police abuses and urged that such incidents never happen again.
Similarly, they stated that if the police did not apprehend those involved, the protests would continue.
