Guatemalan exports to Dominican Republic could exceed US$2 billion, Agexport says

Santo Domingo.- Guatemalan exports to the Dominican Republic currently total about US$282 million annually, but the market has the potential to generate more than US$2 billion in exports of Guatemalan products and services, according to the Guatemalan Exporters Association (Agexport).

The sectors with the greatest growth potential include agribusiness, manufacturing, agriculture, apparel and textiles, technology, and creative industries. Agexport also identified products that the Dominican Republic currently imports from Europe, China, and other markets that could potentially be supplied by Guatemalan companies.

To promote these opportunities, the National Organization of Commercial Enterprises (ONEC) and Agexport signed an agreement aimed at strengthening business ties, facilitating contacts between companies, and identifying specific opportunities for trade and investment.

The agreement was announced during the “Guatemala Closer Than You Imagine” business meeting in Santo Domingo, where Dominican business leaders learned about Guatemala’s export offerings and investment opportunities.

Agexport International Export Promotion Manager Paola Álvarez said the Dominican Republic is a priority market for expanding Guatemala’s exports, both in products already sold in the country and in new categories.

ONEC Executive Director Jenniffer Troncoso said the partnership will give companies greater access to market information, contacts, and potential business opportunities while promoting sustained dialogue between the two business communities.

The initiative also included presentations on investment opportunities in Guatemala and experiences from Dominican companies already doing business with the Central American country.
