Haiti and the Dominican Republic to resume flights on May 30
Santo Domingo.- Haiti and the Dominican Republic will resume commercial passenger and cargo flights on May 30 after more than two years of suspended operations caused by Haiti’s ongoing security crisis. The announcement was made Thursday by Haiti’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, which confirmed that flights will operate through Cabo Haitiano International Airport in the country’s northern region.
Air travel between the two nations had been suspended since March 5, 2024, amid escalating violence in Haiti linked to armed gangs, including attacks, robberies, kidnappings, and other crimes that have deepened the country’s instability. Haitian authorities said the reopening reflects efforts to restore connectivity and strengthen cooperation with neighboring countries.
The decision follows a bilateral meeting held on April 17 between Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and Haitian Foreign Minister Raina Forbin at the Codevi Industrial Park near the shared border. In its statement, the Haitian government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining constructive dialogue and cooperation with Dominican authorities based on mutual respect and good neighborly relations.
