INDOMET and Civil Defense partner to enhance national risk management

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Civil Defense and the Dominican Institute of Meteorology signed an inter-institutional agreement to install meteorological stations at strategic Civil Defense locations across the Dominican Republic.

The agreement, signed by Juan Salas and Gloria Ceballos, aims to strengthen the country’s Early Warning System through real-time monitoring of atmospheric conditions, data collection, and timely dissemination of weather information to improve disaster prevention and risk management.

Salas stated that the stations, which will be supervised by trained Civil Defense personnel, will allow authorities to closely monitor weather conditions and make faster decisions to protect vulnerable communities from natural hazards such as hurricanes, storms, and flooding.

Meanwhile, Ceballos explained that the thermopluviometric stations will provide critical rainfall and climate data to help identify areas at risk of flash floods and other weather-related emergencies. She noted that INDOMET will provide technical support and specialized guidance for the initiative.
