INFOTEP and Asonahores discuss new training initiatives for tourism and gastronomy

Hermanas Mirabal, DR.- The National Institute of Technical and Professional Training and the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic have started discussions to establish a strategic alliance focused on strengthening workforce training for the country’s tourism and gastronomy sectors.

The meeting, held at the Hermanas Mirabal Technological Center, brought together INFOTEP officials led by Business Competitiveness Director Rayza Pichardo and Asonahores Executive Vice President Aguie Lendor. The initiative seeks to modernize teaching methods and adapt training programs to new trends and demands within the tourism and hospitality industry.

Among the proposals discussed is the selection of five training centers that would serve as pilot spaces to evaluate educational practices and identify opportunities for improvement. Asonahores also proposed involving hotels and restaurants in retraining programs for INFOTEP instructors so they can gain direct exposure to the sector’s evolving dynamics and standards.

Lendor highlighted plans to develop an innovative culinary training center at the Hermanas Mirabal Technological Center aimed at becoming a national benchmark for gastronomy and haute cuisine innovation. Another proposal includes creating a job placement platform for INFOTEP graduates to connect trained professionals with hotels and restaurants seeking qualified staff.

INFOTEP representatives said the initiative would help strengthen business competitiveness, improve employability, and align technical education with the real needs of the tourism industry. Officials also reaffirmed their commitment to facilitating the formalization of the partnership and advancing joint projects focused on innovation and specialized workforce development.
