Interactive flight simulators to debut at Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2026

Santo Domingo.- Visitors to the 28th Santo Domingo International Book Fair will have a chance to step inside a cockpit this fall as civil aviation officials set up interactive flight simulators at the Plaza de la Cultura, opening September 24 through October 4.

The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) announced it is building an interactive pavilion featuring two functional flight simulators accessible to the public, alongside career guidance for the aviation industry.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture, this year’s book fair honors poet and essayist José Mármol, with Panama serving as the guest country of honor. The official opening ceremony takes place September 23 at the National Theater, with doors opening to the public the following day, a national holiday.

The interactive initiative follows a similar turnout at the Northern Region Book Fair held in Santiago last April, where organizers reported over 10,000 visitors at the aviation exhibit.

Alongside the simulation equipment, personnel from IDAC and the Higher Academy of Aeronautical Sciences (ASCA)—a regional training center recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)—will provide career counseling on specialized technical degrees in air traffic control and aeronautical management.

The exhibit aims to highlight growing opportunities within the country’s aviation market, which recorded over 20 million passengers across 217,620 flight operations in 2025.
