INTRANT seizes five vehicles linked to irregular transport of Haitian migrants

Bávaro.- The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT), together with the General Directorate of Transit and Land Transportation Security (DIGESETT) and the Military and Police Commission (COMIPOL), detained five buses and minibuses operated by Dominican and Haitian citizens in irregular migratory status in the Friusa area of Bávaro-Punta Cana, La Altagracia.

The vehicles were being used to transport undocumented Haitian nationals and were detained during a multi-day inspection operation covering several locations in Bávaro and the Punta Cana International Airport. Authorities inspected 19 vehicles, including passenger and tourist buses, minibuses, buggies and four-wheel vehicles.

INTRANT said the operation targeted violations of Articles 44, 74, 321 and 323 of Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transport, Transit and Road Safety.

Among the vehicles seized were two buses and three minibuses operated by two Dominicans and three Haitians in irregular migratory status. Nine buggies and four-wheel vehicles were also impounded, along with four tourist buses that lacked the permits required by INTRANT and were reportedly disrupting operations at Punta Cana Airport.

The seized vehicles were taken to INTRANT’s La Conejita Detention Center in Friusa for inspection and the application of the corresponding sanctions.

INTRANT Executive Director Juan Manuel Méndez García said the inspections are part of a broader effort to enforce Law 63-17 and ensure compliance with regulations governing passenger, tourist, cargo and private transportation. The institute said similar operations will be expanded to other parts of the country.
