Italian Embassy invites Dominicans to capture Italy through photography

Santo Domingo.- The Italian Embassy in the Dominican Republic, led by Ambassador Sergio Maffettone, launched the first edition of the photography contest “Instants of Italy: Italy Through the Dominican Gaze,” an initiative designed to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries through photography and creativity.

The contest invites Dominicans to capture through their lenses the culture, landscapes, traditions and Italian influence that have shaped their perception of Italy.

The launch brought together members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of partner institutions, special guests and media. The event was hosted by communicator María Angélica Ureña.

Ambassador Maffettone said the competition offers an opportunity to celebrate the longstanding relationship between Italy and the Dominican Republic while showcasing the creativity and talent of Dominican photographers.

One of the main attractions of the contest is its prizes, which include two flights to Italy provided by Neos Air, along with additional awards and surprises for participants.

The embassy will announce the winners in December, during the closing activities of the first edition.

The launch also featured a performance by violinist Eva Cammaro, followed by a toast celebrating the initiative and its connection to Italian art and culture.

The embassy thanked its partners and sponsors, including INDEX, Neos Air, Casa de Italia, Alive Healthy Food and Mionetto Prosecco, for supporting the project.

Through the contest, the Italian Embassy is inviting Dominicans and photography enthusiasts to offer their own perspective on Italy, turning each image into a reflection of the cultural connections between the two nations.

The initiative seeks to go beyond a photography competition by creating a space for cultural exchange, creativity and collaboration, while highlighting the different ways Italy is perceived through a Dominican lens.
