46-year-old visitor from Italy succumbed to injuries while receiving medical treatment following a hotel fire in Bayahíbe, Dominican Republic.

Bayahíbe, Dominican Republic — An Italian tourist died on Friday after suffering injuries in a fire that broke out at a hotel complex in Bayahíbe, located in La Altagracia province.

The victim was identified as Francesca Valentino, 46, a resident of Caserta, Italy.

According to preliminary reports, Valentino was assisted by personnel from the Dominican Republic’s National Emergency and Security Response System (911) and rushed to a medical facility in La Romana province. Despite efforts by medical staff, she died while receiving treatment.

Emergency Response to Hotel Viva Dominicus fire

Authorities continue efforts to contain and investigate the fire, which prompted a large-scale emergency response coordinated by the 911 system.

The operation includes eight units from the Extrahospital Emergency Care Directorate (DAEH), one unit from the National Police, 15 units from various fire departments, one unit from the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT), and two drone units deployed by the 911 Emergency System.

Officials have not yet released details regarding the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage. An investigation remains ongoing.
