Jack Nicklaus visits Cap Cana to oversee new Las Iguanas Golf Course
Golf legend Jack Nicklaus visited Cap Cana to inspect the progress of Las Iguanas Golf Course, a new golf development designed by his Jack Nicklaus Signature Design team that is expected to open fully in spring 2027.
The visit focused on the construction and design of the course, including its integration with Cap Cana’s natural surroundings. The first nine holes of Las Iguanas are already in operation, while work continues toward the project’s full opening.
Nicklaus said the course is now nearing completion and reaffirmed his team’s commitment to the project. “We are now back, with our entire team and fully committed to this new stage,” Nicklaus said.
Las Iguanas expands Cap Cana’s golf offering
Las Iguanas is part of Cap Cana’s strategy to strengthen its position as a golf and sports tourism destination in the Caribbean.
Nicklaus’ relationship with Cap Cana dates back to Punta Espada Golf Club, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2026 and is recognized as one of the region’s leading golf courses.
Cap Cana board chairman Fernando Hazoury said Nicklaus’ continued involvement represents an endorsement of the destination’s long-term vision.
“Golf has been a fundamental part of Cap Cana’s identity, but our commitment to sports tourism is much broader,” Hazoury said.
He highlighted Cap Cana’s growing role as a venue for international sporting events, including the ATP Challenger 175 and Ironman 70.3, as part of efforts to attract athletes, visitors and sports enthusiasts.
