JetBlue raises baggage fees on flights to Dominican Republic and Caribbean

Santo Domingo.- JetBlue has raised its checked baggage fees for flights to the Dominican Republic and other destinations in the Caribbean, Latin America, Canada and the United States, marking the airline’s second increase this year.

The new rates apply to tickets purchased from November 3, 2026. For most economy-class passengers, the first checked bag now costs US$50 per flight during regular periods, up from US$39.

During peak travel periods, including Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, the fee rises to US$55 when the bag is paid for at least 24 hours before departure. Passengers who wait until the final 24 hours will pay US$60 during regular periods and up to US$70 during peak periods.

The cost of a second checked bag has also increased to US$70 during regular periods and US$75 during peak periods when paid in advance. Passengers who pay at the airport could face a fee of up to US$85.

JetBlue said the increases are intended to offset higher fuel and operating costs while allowing the airline to keep base fares competitive. Some passengers, including eligible holders of JetBlue co-branded credit cards and members of its loyalty program, remain eligible for free checked bags.

The airline had already raised its baggage fees in March. At the beginning of 2026, the first checked bag on most domestic economy flights cost US$35 during off-peak periods.

JetBlue said fuel costs have increased significantly, with the average price reaching US$3.91 per gallon during the summer, up 57% from a year earlier. The airline expects prices to reach US$4.64 per gallon in the final quarter of 2026, an 85% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

The latest increase follows similar baggage fee adjustments by other major U.S. airlines, including Delta, United, American and Southwest.
