Mexico supports Dominican Republic in modernizing labor statistics

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Labor Minister Eddy Olivares received a new statistical monitoring project developed by Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), aimed at strengthening the Ministry of Labor’s administrative records and improving evidence-based policymaking.

The initiative, created under the Dominican Republic-Mexico Bilateral Cooperation Program, seeks to enhance the quality of labor data, establish a stronger monitoring and evaluation system, and generate strategic indicators to support the design and assessment of labor policies.

Olivares said reliable statistics are essential for understanding labor market trends, measuring the impact of public policies and making informed decisions on issues such as informal employment. He added that the project supports the ministry’s efforts to modernize public management through greater efficiency, transparency and data-driven decision-making.

The project was developed with the support of the Ministry of the Presidency’s Vice Ministry of International Cooperation, the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AMEXCID), the Dominican Ministry of Labor and INEGI.
