Minerd extends preventive class suspension in areas under yellow alert

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Education (Minerd) announced that preventive suspension of classes will continue Wednesday, October 28, at schools located in vulnerable areas of provinces under yellow alert due to ongoing rains.

The ministry said regional and district authorities may maintain the suspension at schools where weather conditions pose risks to students, teachers, and administrative staff.

The measure responds to rainfall associated with a trough affecting several parts of the country. Minerd emphasized that the suspension is not nationwide and will apply only to schools in vulnerable areas of provinces under yellow alert, based on local conditions.

School authorities were instructed to keep prevention protocols in place and take measures to protect facilities, equipment, and educational resources.

Minerd also urged the educational community to monitor official bulletins from the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and instructions issued by local education authorities.
