Ministry of Culture announces Restoration Day program in Santiago

Santiago de los Caballeros.- The Ministry of Culture announced a series of activities in Santiago de los Caballeros to commemorate Restoration Day, highlighted by the “Concert for the Homeland” on August 16 at the Gran Teatro del Cibao.

The concert, under the artistic direction of Culture Vice Minister Amaury Sánchez, will feature the Santo Domingo Philharmonic Orchestra alongside prominent Dominican performers, including Carlos Alfredo Fatule, Adalgisa Pantaleón, Jessy Savery, and the Koribe choir. The program will include Dominican folk, choral, and popular music as a tribute to the heroes of the Restoration and the country’s musical heritage.

The celebrations will begin on Saturday, August 15, with a “Park Afternoon” around the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration. The family-oriented event will feature traditional music and dance, a youth orchestra, visual arts and crafts exhibitions, and a light show projected onto the monument.

The Ministry said the activities seek to honor the 1863 Restoration movement, which began in Santiago and led to the recovery of Dominican sovereignty following the country’s annexation to Spain. The program is being organized with cultural, educational, and government institutions to strengthen national identity and historical memory.
