MIREX launches book documenting Dominican diplomacy on Haiti crisis

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) launched the book “Dominican Diplomacy in the Face of the Haitian Crisis 2024-2026: More Speeches and Key Writings,” a publication that documents the Dominican Republic’s diplomatic efforts to mobilize international support in response to Haiti’s ongoing political, humanitarian, and security crisis. The event, attended by Vice President Raquel Peña, featured a panel discussion with legal and diplomatic experts.

The book is the second volume in a series examining the country’s response to the Haitian crisis. Co-edited by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, Deputy Foreign Minister Rubén Silié, and diplomat Anselmo Muñiz, the publication compiles speeches, resolutions, letters, and diplomatic initiatives undertaken between 2024 and 2026. It highlights the Dominican Republic’s efforts to maintain international attention on Haiti and secure support for security and stabilization initiatives.

During the presentation, Álvarez said the country’s diplomatic strategy has been guided by President Luis Abinader’s good-neighbor policy and dates back to warnings issued before the international community fully recognized the scale of Haiti’s challenges. He stressed that while Haiti may be one concern among many for other countries, it remains a matter of national security and a top foreign policy priority for the Dominican Republic.

The book also details the national consensus forged on Haiti policy, including joint advocacy efforts by former presidents Leonel Fernández, Hipólito Mejía, and Danilo Medina alongside the current administration. In addition, it documents Dominican contributions to international security missions in Haiti, including logistical, financial, and medical support, as well as efforts to keep the crisis on the agenda of multilateral organizations and key international partners.
