National District council to consider heavy vehicle traffic rules
The application of regulations governing the transit of heavy vehicles through the streets and avenues in the National District is subject to the approval of the Chapter House of the mayor’s office of the Dominican capital.
According to statements by Mayor Carolina Mejía, the regulation will be put to a vote in the coming days, within the Chapter House.
“That part is a regulation that has already been held in public hearings and must now be known by the chamber for approval and that could be in the next few days,” said the mayor of the capital.
On June 26, “a pilot plan” was prepared and circulated that sought to improve road circulation, which established restricted areas with limited hours under a permit.
This permit, before the authority, would cost RD$1,500 per cargo vehicle and would be valid for no more than 30 calendar days.
The proposal was presented during the public hearing held in the Session Room of the Council of Aldermen of the jurisdiction, which was supported by the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transport Safety (Digesett) and the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant).
This regulation addresses traffic, limiting cargo vehicles in the National District and restricting their circulation along the Paseo de los Reyes Católicos and República de Colombia avenues to the northwest. The Duarte Highway and Gregorio Luperón Avenue to the west and 30 de Mayo and George Washington Avenues to the south.
As well as the areas of the Malecón de Santo Domingo, in the section between Gregorio Luperón Avenue and the Floating Bridge. As well as the port of Santo Domingo, Gazcue and Ciudad Nueva sectors.
The vehicles restricted in this circular are truck-tractors or cabezotes with or without a tail, regardless of the number of axles, and heavy vehicles with more than 3 axles in the restricted access zone, with a prohibition schedule in the area from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, with the exception of micro zones that would have other defined schedules
Heavy vehicles violate the official regulations that regulate their circulation on the Malecón de Santo Domingo.
