National Match Play Championship returns to Punta Espada with 72 top golfers

The National Match Play Championship returns to Punta Espada Golf Club in Cap Cana, bringing together the Dominican Republic’s top amateur and professional golfers for one of the country’s most prestigious golf tournaments.

Organized by the Dominican Golf Federation (Fedogolf), the three-day championship will feature 72 players who earned their spots by finishing among the top eight in their respective divisions during the National Tour held in June.

Competition begins on Friday, July 31, with player registration at 11:00 a.m. and the opening round starting at 1:00 p.m. Quarterfinal matches will be played on Saturday morning, followed by the semifinals in the afternoon. The tournament concludes on Sunday, Aug. 2, with the championship finals and an awards ceremony honoring the winners.

The event includes professional, amateur, mid-amateur, senior, and super senior divisions, showcasing many of the Dominican Republic’s highest-ranked golfers.

Since opening in 2006, Punta Espada Golf Club has become one of the Caribbean’s premier golf destinations and a regular venue for major national tournaments. Its championship course has played an important role in developing Dominican golf and promoting the country as a leading sports tourism destination.

Defending champion Juan José Guerra, who captured the 2025 title, will look to retain his crown after dethroning Julio Santos, the 2024 champion.
