New Colonial Challenge lets visitors explore Santo Domingo through interactive games

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), in partnership with the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster, has launched the Colonial Challenge, a new interactive digital experience that invites residents and tourists to explore Santo Domingo’s Colonial City, the first European settlement in the Americas, through games and educational activities.

Created as part of the TURIZONEANDO Summer 2026 campaign, the platform uses gamification to transform traditional sightseeing into an engaging adventure. Participants complete 18 sequential challenges at iconic landmarks throughout the Colonial City, solving puzzles and uncovering historical facts while discovering the area’s rich cultural heritage.

Visitors who complete the full route can unlock exclusive rewards, including offers from local restaurants, cultural attractions, and entertainment venues, helping support businesses in the historic district while enhancing the visitor experience.

The Colonial Challenge will be available until August 30, 2026, allowing users to participate directly from their mobile devices as they explore one of the Dominican Republic’s most visited tourist destinations. The initiative is part of MITUR’s broader strategy to promote cultural tourism through digital innovation and encourage more people to experience the history, architecture, and attractions of Santo Domingo’s Colonial City.
