New committee to oversee administration of Sosúa Beach Vendors Plaza

Puerto Plata.- The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) has formally established the Management Committee for the Sosúa Beach Vendors Plaza in accordance with Decree No. 187-26, a measure aimed at ensuring the proper administration, maintenance, and long-term sustainability of the tourism facility.

The committee was officially formed during a meeting led by Vice Minister of Destination Management Patricia Mejía, with the participation of Puerto Plata Senator Ginette Bournigal, Mitur officials, and representatives from key community organizations. The body includes delegates from the Catholic and Evangelical churches, the Sosúa Municipal Government, the Magua Foundation, the Sosúa Development Association, and the Sosúa Beach Vendors Association.

Under the decree, the committee will oversee the operation, preservation, and management of the plaza, which was created to improve working conditions for beach vendors while enhancing the visitor experience. Authorities highlighted that the initiative promotes transparent and collaborative governance, bringing together public, private, and community stakeholders.

Mitur noted that the establishment of the committee marks another step in consolidating the transformation of Sosúa Beach, helping maintain order, improve service quality, and support tourism development in Puerto Plata. The ministry said the measure reflects its commitment to sustainable tourism management and community participation in preserving strategic tourism assets.
