Nine earthquakes recorded across Dominican Republic in one day

Santo Domingo.- The National Seismological Center at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) reported that nine minor earthquakes were recorded across the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, with magnitudes ranging from 2.2 to 3.5. The strongest tremor, measuring 3.5, occurred shortly after noon southwest of Saona Island, while other earthquakes were detected near Catalina Island, San Pedro de Macorís, Miches, Hato Mayor, Sabana Grande de Palenque, Guayubín, and Los Hidalgos.

Most of the seismic activity occurred offshore in the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, although several earthquakes were also recorded inland. None of the events were immediately reported to have caused damage or injuries.

The series of tremors comes less than a week after a magnitude 5.1 earthquake on June 26, which was felt across much of the country and prompted precautionary evacuations at several public institutions.
