President Abinader inaugurates six major projects benefiting thousands in Santo Domingo
President Luis Abinader led a series of inaugurations this Saturday in various municipalities of the Santo Domingo province, where he delivered projects focused on strengthening education, sports, environmental sanitation, and access to decent housing.
The activities included the inauguration of a solid waste transfer station, new educational centers and school expansions, the handover of a renovated sports club and a housing project, initiatives that, according to the Government, seek to improve the quality of life of thousands of families.
Solid Waste Transfer Station in Los Alcarrizos
The president inaugurated the Los Alcarrizos Solid Waste Transfer Station, a project with an investment of RD$49 million that will strengthen the Zero Waste Program by making the waste collection and disposal system more efficient.
During the event, Mayor Junior Santos explained that the infrastructure will allow the operational capacity of the garbage trucks to be tripled, optimizing collection times and reducing service costs. He also highlighted that during Abinader’s administration, the municipality has benefited from important projects such as the cable car, the extension of Metro Line 2C, new schools, housing, property titles, and the renovation of the Vinicio Calventi Hospital.
First stage of the Ercilia Pepín High School
In Hato Nuevo, Los Alcarrizos, Abinader inaugurated the first stage of the Ercilia Pepín High School, which incorporates 26 new classrooms to benefit 960 students and expand the capacity of the educational center.
The school has administrative offices, science and computer labs, a nurse’s office, a kitchen, a civic plaza, and other facilities. During the ceremony, the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, stated that each classroom represents an investment in the country’s future and reiterated the Government’s commitment to quality public education.
Sports roof and classrooms at the Félix Lope de Vega School
The head of state also delivered a sports roof and new classrooms for the initial level at the Félix Lope de Vega Primary School in Los Alcarrizos, expanding the spaces for teaching, sports, and the students’ integral training.
The project includes a multipurpose hall that will provide a safe environment for sports, cultural, and recreational activities. The Ministry of Education also reported that it is working to ensure all schools are ready for the start of the academic year, scheduled for August 24.
Renovation of the Dante Lemoniel Sports Club
As part of his agenda, the president inaugurated the renovated Dante Lemoniel Sports Club, a project aimed at strengthening sports practice and community integration in Los Alcarrizos.
The work included the rehabilitation of the field, repair of the stands, and the improvement of the multipurpose area. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, stated that the current administration will mark “a turning point” in the nation’s sports infrastructure. At the same time, community leaders emphasized that the space will contribute to crime prevention and promote peaceful coexistence.
New Hopes Residential Complex in Boca Chica
The six projects inaugurated by Luis Abinader this Saturday and how they will impact thousands of families.
In Boca Chica, Abinader delivered the Nuevas Esperanzas Residential complex, a housing project comprising 112 apartments for local families.
The Minister of Housing and Construction, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, reported that with this delivery, the Government has now delivered 890 apartments, benefiting more than 2,600 people, and reiterated the goal of reaching 4,000 homes before the end of the year. He added that women own more than 58% of the units delivered.
Minerva Mirabal Elementary School in Sabana Perdida
The day concluded with the inauguration of the Minerva Mirabal Basic School in the Los Cerros sector of Sabana Perdida, where more than 900 students will have new facilities for instruction.
The center has 27 classrooms, a library, a cafeteria, a kitchen, a nurse’s office, a sports field, recreational areas, and administrative spaces. During the event, the Minister of Education emphasized that the project is part of the plan to ensure all schools are prepared for the start of the school year and offer suitable learning conditions for children and teenagers.
