Our Lady of Mercy Day: is September 24 a non-working holiday?

Santo Domingo.- Thursday, September 24, 2026, is a public holiday in the Dominican Republic for the celebration of Our Lady of Mercy Day, the patronal feast of the Dominican people.

The Ministry of Labor confirmed that the holiday will be observed on its original date and will not be moved to create a long weekend. Under Law 139-97, both public- and private-sector employers must observe the holiday on Thursday, with regular operations resuming on Friday, September 25.

Therefore, employees whose regular schedule runs from Monday to Friday will have Thursday off and are expected to return to work on Friday.
