Over 6,000 motorcycles impounded during weekend operations in Greater Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful announced that authorities inspected more than 19,000 motorcyclists across Greater Santo Domingo during operations carried out last weekend as part of the government’s efforts to combat road violence and improve traffic order.

Following a Citizen Security Plan meeting led by Vice President Raquel Peña, Raful reported that over 6,000 motorcycles were impounded for traffic violations, including riding without helmets or documents, driving on sidewalks and running red lights.

The minister said the operations are coordinated through the government’s Road Task Force, which meets weekly to implement measures aimed at reducing reckless driving and violence on public roads. She warned that inspections will continue and stressed that all motorcyclists must comply with the law.

Raful also announced upcoming meetings with motorcycle taxi associations, the National Police, Intrant and the Ministry of Public Works to regulate motorcycle taxi stops and verify that drivers do not have outstanding arrest warrants or pending legal cases.

In addition, the minister confirmed that authorities are continuing legal proceedings against the motorcyclist accused of assaulting a driver from the TRAE school transportation system.

On the security front, Raful said authorities have intensified operations against organized crime groups in the southern region of the country. She highlighted a recent intervention by the National Police and Dicrim targeting a criminal network operating between Elías Piña and San Juan provinces.

Authorities said the alleged leader of the group, Ranller Encarnación Vicente, remains a fugitive despite a 30-year prison sentence linked to multiple killings, arson, drug trafficking and other violent crimes. Officials also urged Yunior Mena Vicente, another alleged member of the organization who is wanted under arrest warrant No. 0093-2026, to surrender voluntarily.

Agree. Hopefully they will also go after the noisy motorcyclists with rigged straight pipes that like waking up the residents at 3 in the morning.
