“Pact for a Better City” marks new chapter for Santiago’s urban development

Santiago, DR.- Several public and private sector institutions will sign the “Pact for a Better City” on June 5, 2026, launching a collaborative effort to promote sustainable urban development and long-term territorial planning in Santiago. The agreement will be signed at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and will formally introduce the “Santiago Living City 2035” initiative.

The project seeks to establish a shared vision for the future growth of Santiago and its metropolitan area, bringing together government entities, businesses, academic institutions, and civil society organizations. The initiative is led by the Cibao Housing Developers and Builders Association (APROCOVIC) with support from the Santiago City Hall, PUCMM, the Santiago Strategic Development Council (CDES), the Vice Ministry of Territorial Planning and Regional Development, and key financial institutions.

According to organizers, the pact will lay the groundwork for a Comprehensive Urban Development Plan focused on strategic areas such as mobility, infrastructure, environmental sustainability, urban expansion, and quality of life. The initiative also aims to institutionalize long-term planning processes to ensure continuity and effective implementation.

During the event, experts from CAP Consultores & Asesores Profesionales will present the technical framework for the plan, while Daritza Nicodemo will outline the role of the Technical Monitoring Unit, which will oversee the execution of commitments established under the agreement. Municipal leaders, business representatives, academics, and community stakeholders are expected to attend the launch.
