President Abinader inaugurates new PriceSmart club in La Romana, supporting local suppliers
La Romana.- Luis Abinader joined executives from PriceSmart for the inauguration of the company’s new club in La Romana, a US$21.1 million investment that expands the retailer’s presence in the Dominican Republic and strengthens economic activity in the eastern region.
Located on the La Romana–Higüey highway, the new warehouse club created approximately 125 direct jobs, most of them filled by local residents. The 6,205-square-meter facility includes nearly 4,000 square meters of retail space, 309 parking spaces, and services such as a pharmacy, optical center, prepared foods, and online shopping options including Click & Go and home delivery. With this opening, PriceSmart now operates six clubs in the Dominican Republic and 57 across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The company said the store was built to EDGE sustainability standards and features solar panels, LED lighting, energy-efficient cooling systems, and recycling facilities. Members will have access to more than 1,600 products, including over 700 supplied by Dominican vendors. PriceSmart also announced community initiatives such as food donations, support for local schools, and youth education programs through the PriceSmart Foundation, reaffirming its long-term commitment to investment, job creation, and social development in the country.
