Pro Consumidor closes eight Chinese-owned businesses over violations
Santo Domingo.- The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor) temporarily closed eight Chinese-owned businesses in Greater Santo Domingo after inspectors found several regulatory violations.
The affected establishments include Home Plus, AMG Mall, Plaza Neza, Tienda Rojo Star, Tienda Nuevo Mundo, Import y Export, and Sol, Playa y Arena, among others. They are located in Pantoja, Los Alcarrizos, and other areas of Greater Santo Domingo.
Pro Consumidor director Eddy Alcántara said the closures were ordered through resolutions 1934-26 and 1935-26 following inspections and a review of the violations identified by the institution’s technical teams.
Among the irregularities were the sale of products without the required health registrations and the display of adult items in locations accessible to minors, potentially violating regulations protecting children and adolescents.
The closures will remain in effect while the Attorney General’s Office conducts an investigation into the cases.
