ProCompetencia to hold 4th Competition Week in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- The National Commission for the Defense of Competition (ProCompetencia) will hold its 4th Competition Week 2026 from November 2 to 6 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santo Domingo, bringing together competition authorities, international organizations, academics and public- and private-sector representatives to discuss the challenges facing competition policy amid global geopolitical changes.

The event will open Monday with an accountability report by María Elena Vásquez Taveras, president of ProCompetencia’s Board of Directors, covering her 2021-2026 administration.

The 2nd International Congress on Competition, under the theme “Competition in Times of Geopolitical Transformations,” will examine the impact of global trade fragmentation, supply chains and trade policies on competition in Latin America, as well as cooperation among competition authorities.

The program will also feature the launch of the 2026 Competition Yearbook and a discussion of the proposed Organic Law on Antitrust and Economic Competition. The bill would introduce merger control, strengthen the prosecution of cartels through a leniency program and expanded investigative powers, and redesign ProCompetencia’s institutional structure to strengthen its independence.

Other activities include the Writing X Competition 2026 awards, the 3rd International Forum on Gender and Competition, and the XIII Annual Meeting of the Working Group on Cooperation in Competition of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The week will conclude with the 20th Central American Competition Forum, focused on “Informality, Growth, and Competition.” The meeting will address informality and collusion in public procurement and include the presentation of the first Central American Competition Yearbook and the Santo Domingo Declaration.
