Puerto Plata Dominican Republic Navy assists 4 people of different nationalities in Atlantic waters

The Dominican Republic Navy provided timely assistance to a vessel with people on board that experienced navigation difficulties after receiving an alert from a merchant vessel that had assisted a recreational boat and three jet skis heading from Turks and Caicos to Ocean World in Puerto Plata.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, when the vessel requested support to assist four people of different nationalities—including American, Bahamian, and Dominican—who, aboard three jet skis and a recreational boat, were preparing to travel to the Dominican coast from the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The aforementioned citizens had been located by the Liberian-flagged merchant vessel STOLT ACER at the reported geographic position. In response, maritime assistance and coordination protocols were activated, and the transfer of the citizens to the Navy’s surface naval units from the aforementioned merchant vessel was carried out.

Four of the occupants were rescued and safely transported by naval personnel to the Ocean World facilities, where they were handed over to the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1 to receive preventive medical attention.

With this intervention, the Dominican Republic Navy reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding human life at sea, ensuring the safety of mariners, and maintaining permanent surveillance in the waters under its jurisdiction.
