Puerto Plata will receive 29 cruise ship calls during August, according to Apordom
The Dominican Port Authority ( Apordom ) reported that Puerto Plata will receive 29 cruise ship calls during the month of August, a schedule that strengthens the Dominican Republic’s position as one of the main cruise tourism destinations in the Caribbean.
According to the arrival schedule, the Amber Cove terminal will concentrate 15 stops. At the same time, Taíno Bay will receive 14 vessels, consolidating the province of Puerto Plata as the main cruise ship destination in the country during that period.
The schedule includes ships belonging to major international lines such as Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises
- August 5, 18 and 19 will be the busiest days, with the simultaneous arrival of three cruise ships, which will generate a greater flow of visitors and boost commercial and tourist activity on the north coast.
Scheduled stops stand out.
Apordom’s executive director, Jean Luis Rodríguez, highlighted that the number of scheduled port calls reflects the confidence of major international shipping companies in Dominican ports.
“Receiving 29 cruise ship calls in Puerto Plata during August demonstrates the confidence that the main cruise lines continue to place in the Dominican Republic,” said Rodríguez, who noted that the institution works to maintain safe, modern and efficient ports.
International shipping companies maintain a preference for Puerto Plata
Among the ships with the most frequent visits during August are the NCL Luna, with five scheduled stops; the Caribbean Princess, with four; and the Carnival Mardi Gras and Carnival Vista cruise ships, with three arrivals each.
Apordom highlighted that this programming is especially important because it takes place during the low cruise season in the Caribbean, which coincides with summer and hurricane season, periods in which itineraries in the region traditionally decrease.
- The institution indicated that the cruise ship movement represents an opportunity to continue boosting tourism, job creation, and economic activity linked to the sector in Puerto Plata and other areas of the country.
